99% of you make that 1 mistake on Midjourney:
Over-prompting.
(and I used to do it too — sorry for that)
1. What’s over-prompting?
A prompt is your request.
For example, it could be:
“Selfie of Yoda”
→ and you will get selfies of Yoda.
But what if your prompt is long.
Like — very long. For example:
“full body, splatter spirit of the pink-white moon sci fi anthropomorphic magic cyborg girl, rose bloom core spiral, dark crimson magic all around, photorealistic ,cinematic light, full detailing, porta 400 film, high quality, HD ,8k, ray tracing”
Each word has a weight in the prompt.
The total weight is 1.
But some words are worth… 0.
Meaning: they make no difference.
On our example, here’s the list:
full (0.03) body (0.03), splatter (0.40) spirit (0.04) of the pink (0.62)-white (0.12) moon (0.33) sci (0.01) fi (0.00) anthropomorphic (0.07) magic (0.06) cyborg (0.46) girl (1.00), rose (0.05) bloom (0.08) core (0.02) spiral (0.05),dark (0.04) crimson (0.09) magic (0.02) all (0.02) around (0.01), photorealistic (0.02) ,cinematic (0.03) light (0.01),full (0.01) detailing (0.06), porta 400 (0.10) film (0.01),high (0.00) quality (0.00), HD (0.00) ,8k (0.02), ray (0.01) tracing (0.01)
2. Why does it matter?
It’s crucial to know HOW you do things.
What part of the prompt was essential — or not.
A better artist is one who masters the technique.
3. What should you do about it?
Just like in my video, use “/shorten”.
It’s a command that will help you…
☑ Understand what matters — or not.
☑ Understand the weight of each words.
☑ Understand how to become a better prompter.
