Midjourney Tutorial – Prompt Cycling Technique – Beginner Friendly

One way to learn (quickly) how to create the best prompts in Midjourney is to use what I call the “Prompt Cycling” technique. This method is a fast way to generate several variations of simple prompts and observe their effects.

Prompt Cycling:
Keep one element constant while systematically changing another element to observe the effects on the output.

For this example of prompt cycling, I used:
Enigma – as the constant

Prompt structure:👉 Enigma + [variable] and the aspect ratio

In my example: enigma, variable –ar 16:9
e.g.
enigma, digital –ar 16:9
enigma, whimsical –ar 16:9
enigma, pop art –ar 16:9
enigma, horror –ar 16:9

Choose any word of your liking as the constant.
You can use any variable you come up with. You can keep it to a specific style or go as far and wide as you’d like.

While I’m running these prompts, I observe.
What do I see?
Are there patterns, for example?

These observations help me create better prompts in the future as I’m working on creating prompts that help guide Midjourney.
